COUPLES RESOURCE
When Love Triggers Survival
Conflict does not always mean love is gone. Sometimes a present disagreement touches an old hurt, fear, disappointment, or unresolved experience.
One partner may become angry or demanding, while the other withdraws, shuts down, or becomes defensive. In those moments, couples may begin protecting themselves instead of protecting their connection.
Pause: Slow the conversation down before words become harmful.
Name: Identify the feeling beneath your reaction. It may be hurt, fear, rejection, loneliness, or disappointment.
Communicate: Clearly express what you feel, what happened, and what you need.
Repair: Take responsibility for your response and choose one action that can help restore connection.
Remember: The cycle is the problem. Your partner is not the enemy.
Through our couples initiatives, Restored, Inc. helps couples recognize unhealthy patterns, communicate more clearly, rebuild emotional safety, and develop practical tools for a stronger relationship.
Where Love Learns to Thrive Again.
This resource is for relationship education and personal reflection. Joint couples programs are not appropriate when physical violence, threats, coercion, intimidation, or fear for safety are present.
